What is a WebSlice?
Web
Slices are small parts of a webpage that provides you with information
quickly. Think of it like reading a newspaper. Most people only read the
sections of the newspaper that interest them. Some read the business section
and others may only read the headlines.
Web Slices allow you to take a "Section" or "Slice"
out of a webpage so you can view part of the webpage that interests you.
When using a Web Slice, you
are asking a website to give you only the condensed information you want without
all the "ads" and "pop-ups" that are inherent to almost every commercial
website.
One good
example would be getting your local area weather information. With a Web
Slice for weather, you can view only the local area weather conditions
without having to go to the website and wait till all the "goodies" have
downloaded to your computer to see if it's going to rain that day.
WebSlices save time and therefore very convenient for you.

Here is an example of a WebSlice for
weather:

You can click on the
links available to obtain more information as it suits you. The window
is "clean" and concise, no "ads" or "pop-ups" and you are not bombarded
with to much information.
This is only one example of a WebSlice, there are
many others. From checking on your favorite team scores to getting the
latest celebrity gossip. You can almost use them for anything.

Things to know:
Now here are some things you should know about
WebSlices:
1.) WebSlices do not have scroll bars. So it may
be hard to navigate around the WebSlice. *
2.) WebSlices only stay up as long as you are
viewing them. If you click on another part of the page or another area
on your desktop they will collapse.
3.) WebSlices are updated at regular intervals and
can be set to "refresh" at different times by the user.
4.) WebSlices windows can be "resized" as needed
to cover the whole area of the "Slice" provided.
To do this click and
drag the lower right (or left depending on the position of the window)
corner of the window to "resize" the view.
*note: to make it easier to navigate, you can use
the control/mouse wheel ( hold the control key and move your mouse wheel
at the same time) to zoom in or zoom out of the WebSlice.
Now all you have to do it install One! Click on the WebSlice
Add-Ons menu and install One. |
