How to install a
WebSlice:
There are basically 3 methods to
install a WebSlice.
Method 1:
When you find a page that has a
WebSlice, you will notice a WebSlice
icon
on your tool bar, all you have to do is click on the icon and it
will install the WebSlice for you as seen in the figure
below.

Method 2:
As
above, a page that has a WebSlice will display the same WebSlice
icon,
and it will also appear in the upper left hand corner of the
particular Webslice itself. Click on that icon and the WebSlice will
also install for you as shown in the figure below.
(Note: WebSlices can be placed anywhere on the
page, it is up to the author for placement.)

Method
3:
WebSlice authors may provide a
button to install the WebSlice, but most don't. However, I
find that sometimes it is just easier to have one for the user. A
button is easy to recognize and understand its function. So on most of the WebSlices listed here a button is provided for you. All
you have to do is press the button and the WebSlice will install for
you.
Favorites
Bar:
Once the WebSlice is installed, an icon will
appear on your "Favorites Bar" located just to the left of the "Tool
Bar" as seen below.

Now all you have to do is click on the
down arrow and the WebSlice window will appear. Resize the window as
you would any other window and you are done.
If you do
not want the WebSlice anymore just right click the icon and delete
it from your "Favorites
Bar".
Things to know:
Now here are some things you should know about
WebSlices:
1.) WebSlices do not have scroll bars. So it may be
hard to navigate around the WebSlice. *
2.) WebSlices only stay up as long
as you are viewing them. If you click on another part of the page or
another area on your desktop they will collapse.
3.) WebSlices
are updated at regular intervals and can be set to "refresh" at
different times by the user.
4.) WebSlices windows can be
"resized" as needed to cover the whole area of the "Slice"
provided.
To do this click and drag the lower right (or left
depending on the position of the window) corner of the window to
"resize" the view.
*note: to make it easier to navigate, you can use the
control/mouse wheel (hold the control key and move your mouse wheel
at the same time) to zoom in or zoom out of the WebSlice. |
